Rob Heffernan Receives European Medal In Front Of Home Crowd

In front of a large home crowd Rob Heffernan was awarded the bronze medal for the 20k walk race at the European Championships in Barcelona in 2010 by Sonia O’Sullivan in a ceremony held in the City Hall this evening on Friday evening.

At the 2010 European Championships, Heffernan finished just outside the medals  in 4th place in a time of 1:21. He has now been upgraded to 3rd after the Russian athlete Stanislav Emelyanov who won the gold medal in Barcelona  has been banned due to irregularities in his biological passport.

Heffernan stated “that he was delighted to share the occasion with his family, friends & supporters. He was especially thankful to have European medalists Sonia O’Sullivan & Derval O’Rourke there to share the occasion.”
