ATHLETE OF THE MONTH - APRIL 2010
Monthly Award winner for month of April is Douglas Community School,  World Schools Cross-Country team.
 
The boys team produced an outstanding display to finish a creditable fifth in the ISF World Schools Cross Country Championships held in Liptovsky Mikulus, Slovakia last month.
 
Undeterred by the volcanic eruptions in Iceland which grounded flights throughout Northern Europe at the time the boys made an epic journey by ferry, car and coach over three days to make the race venue on time.
 
In the circumstances a fifth placing was a notable achievement with Turkey, New Zealand, Australia filling the podium positions and the Douglas squad were just pipped by Southend H.S.of Britain for fourth place.
 
Top Irish finisher was Patrick Coleman 9th., followed by Cullen Lynch, Ian Tobin, Mark Seacy, Andrew O'Keeffe, Jamie Sullivan and Billy Murphy.
 
Athletic Ireland's Regional Development Officer, Steven Macklin was coach to the team.
