World class hammer throwing makes a welcome return to Cork when the the 59th, Cork City Sports takes place at the newly revamped CIT Athletic Stadium, Bishopstown, on Saturday, 3rd.July. The great Kathrin Klaas from Germany who finished 4th in her homeland at the World Championships last August and has thrown over 74.53m will be a firm favourite to win the event and break the Meeting record held by the former Russian world record holder, Olga Kuzenkova, who threw 62.60m at the same venue back in 1993. From Moldova will be the famous Marghiev sisters, Marina and Zalina, who are both 72.metre throwers and England's no 1, Zoe Derham and U.K. junior champion, Sophie Hitchon will also challenge for podium positions. Despite the enforced absence of Eileen O'Keeffe, out for the season because of injury, the home throwers will be well represented by the likes of Rachel Akers, Cara Kennedy, Mary Sutherland and Mairead O'Neill. The hammer is scheduled to start at 1.30 pm
