Not surprisingly a number of new records were set at the 59th.Cork City Sports held at the CIT Athletic Stadium, Bishopstown. In winning the 3000m Walk the Australian Luke Adams set a new world leading mark for 2010 of 10 mins.59.04 secs.which also bettered Eder Sanchez's meeting record of 11;14.01 set last year at the Mardyke Other figures also tumbled in the walk as Jamie Costin broke Corkman Robert Heffernan's Irish national record set at the 2009 City Sports by over two seconds with a clocking of 11 mins.12.02 secs, some 25 seconds inside the Waterford man's his previous best. In the field, Dave Donegan of Clonliffe Harriers cleared 5 metres in the pole vault to equal Alan Burke's national record which has stood since 1989. Another national record broken came in the women's walk where young Kate Veale set new junior figures of 12:58.60 to demolish the old record when closing in fast on Olive Loughnane, the world silver medallist, in the concluding stages of the race. Kathrin Klaas threw the womens hammer 71.06 metres to better Olga Kuznakova's old meeting record which had stood since 1993. As if to emphasise the quality of the competition the leading five competitors all bettered the old figures.
