Despite the unfortunate withdrawal of former World Indoor champion, Derval O'Rourke due to a groin strain sustained in winning the 100m.hurdles at the recent European Team Championships in Slovakia, one of the best hurdles field ever assembled in the country will toe the line at the 58th.Cork City Sports next Saturday. Holder Andrea Bliss from Jamaica goes head to head with previous winner Sarah Claxton from Britain with the former US champion and World Championship finalist, Jenny Adams from USA and Fatima Fofanah who is based in the US, coached by former Irish sprint champion Joe Ryan, but now represents Bahrain. All these hurdlers have run well under 13 seconds on numerous occasions so fast times will be the order of the day.
Promising young Mairead Murphy from the Ferrybank club in Waterford should benefit from competing in this company with the Hungarian Fanny Juhasz and Welsh girl , Heather Jones also declared starters
